AN OLD ESTATE PAPERS Old Riley documents creep up from time to time and are brought to the attention of jameswhitcombriley.com. Here are some old estate papers of Andrew Riley, the grandfather of James Whitcomb Riley. James Whitcomb Riley's father Reuben is named in some of these documents but apparently there was an "administrator de bonis non" (???) named Thomas W. Reece who sold some property in a town called Windsor in Randolph County too. They are from the 1840's. There are too many old papers to mess with to scan but we will put a couple on including the final accounting (showing the Andrew Riley estate as insolvent) and a sale of a Windsor, Indiana lot and a receipt showing Reuben Riley (the poet's father) taking over the personal property. Have fun with these old papers, Riley surfers and copy them for your files if you want. It is kind of interesting to see how an estate was administered shortly after Indiana became a state.
